What is 'El Tio'?
In Spanish, "el" means "he" and "tio" means "uncle".
It basically means "the uncle".
In one of chef's favorite movies, there's a food truck called "El Jefe", which means "the boss". Since the chef is already an uncle, the name El Tio was born from there!
Chef Itsuki moved to the United States soon after he was born because of his father's work. He grew up there for eight years, and then moved to Hong Kong. After graduating from high school, he went to university alone in Sydney, Australia at about the age of 19. While studying and working part-time at a restaurant, he found cooking to be a lot of fun, so he continued working at various restaurants after graduating. He eventually returned to Hong Kong again, and when his wife became pregnant, they decided to raise their child in Japan for the sake of the child. Then, in 2024, they returned to chef's hometown, Takamatsu City!
Then, the chef realized that he couldn't find his favorite sandwich. And so, he decided to make it! With that simple thought in mind, he immediately began preparations to open El Tio.
American sandwiches, which are a bit rare in Takamatsu City, can finally be enjoyed here. Come try this authentic sandwich, which looks and tastes different from the usual Japanese sandwiches, and enjoy a new experience!
